We examined the characteristics of adolescents who use mobile health (mHealth) apps to monitor health in a nationally representative sample of Czech adolescents.
The findings revealed that:
- More than half of the adolescents (58.2%) were using mHealth apps on their devices.
- Adolescents who were older, physically more active and had higher eHealth literacy skills used mHealth apps more frequently.
- Parents were significant role models for their children’s adoption of, and engagement with, mHealth apps when they actively mediated their online health information–seeking behaviors.
Future research is required to determine how adolescents’ use of mHealth apps might be related to their health outcomes and behaviors longitudinally.
