From June 25 to 27, a meeting of the Society for the Improvement of Psychological Science (SIPS) took place in Budapest. This annual conference focuses on finding ways to overcome the replication crisis and to build robust psychological theories. It does so through principles of open science, collaboration across research teams (such as in projects like the Many Labs Replication Project), and other initiatives.

Members of the Interdisciplinary Research Team on Internet and Society (IRTIS) and the Psychology Research Institute (INPSY) presented the results of their work at the event.

Anna Literová and Hana Macháčková showcased the results of a project focused on the perception of anonymity in the online environment. Anna shared her study, which highlighted the diverse thought processes involved in perceiving anonymity of oneself and others (full presentation here). Hana introduced a new scale for measuring perceived anonymity and described the challenges encountered during its development (full presentation here).

Petr Palíšek and Nikol Kvardová, together with Dr. Rebecca Kuiper and other colleagues, led a workshop on testing so-called informative hypotheses. This approach offers an alternative to commonly used research methods and enables the generation of more informative findings and the more effective development of psychological theories. The workshop showcased benefits for psychological research and included practical exercises where participants could try out informative hypotheses. Individual talks are available here.
