Our colleague Natálie Terčová is already in her second year serving as Envoy under the Mezinárodní telekomunikační unií (ITU), United Nations. She is part of the Generation Connect program, which aims to improve and have a real impact on the lives of young people around the world and to ensure meaningful participation of youth in ITU as key stakeholders in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Activities related to this position include, but are not limited to, active participation in international conferences, co-organizing educational and outreach workshops and webinars, and working closely with envoys from across the European region. Natálie has previously participated in the position of Envoy as part of the Czech delegation at the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC 2022) and the Generation Connect Global Youth Summit in Rwanda. She also presented at the Workshop on adoption of ICTs and digital skills development for the United Nations, where she addressed her dissertation topic, namely online risks and opportunities related to digital skills for children and adolescents.

“Working with the ITU has opened the door to Internet governance and allowed me to understand a whole range of issues from a new angle. Among other things, I have made many valuable contacts and friendships and have been exposed to a number of opportunities I never dreamed of. Being an envoy allows me to see a step further - how research findings can be translated into new initiatives or directly into legislation. And that's where I see great meaning."

Natálie has also been newly selected for the NextGen fellowship program under ICANN (The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), allowing her to present her research findings on digital skills among youth at the ICANN78 Annual General Meeting in Hamburg, Germany. Earlier this year, she also represented the Czech Republic at The European Dialogue on Internet Governance (EuroDIG) conference in Tampere, Finland, which you can read about here.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for many matters related to information and communication technologies. ITU is at the very heart of the ICTs sector, brokering agreements on technologies, services, and allocation of global resources like radio-frequency spectrum and satellite orbital positions, to create a seamless global communications system that’s robust, reliable, and constantly evolving. The Ministry of Industry and Trade, Department of Electronic Communications administers the Czech focal point for ITU.
