Report: Czech children and adolescents on the internet: Results of the EU Kids Online V survey

A new research report that presents the key findings of the EU Kids Online V (EUKO V) project in the Czech Republic has been published. The project examined the online activities of children and adolescents and the risks they may encounter in the online environment. The findings are based on a representative survey conducted in May and June 2025 among children and adolescents attending schools in the Czech Republic. The report includes data from 2,567 Czech children and adolescents aged 9–17.

Her research focuses on digital technologies and their role in the everyday lives of young people. Finding Common Ground: Exploring Technology and Communication at AFO 61

The 61st edition of the Academia Film Olomouc (AFO 61) international festival centered on the theme of "Common Ground". Our colleagues, Ainize Martínez Soto and Vojtěch Mýlek, contributed to this interdisciplinary discourse through a series of lectures and panel discussions. Their sessions examined the intersection of digital technology, immersive media, and the evolving methodologies of science communication.

Is screen time associated with later bedtimes and daytime sleepiness in adolescents?

A recent report from HBSC Healthy Generation points to increasingly late bedtimes as a key reason why Czech adolescents are getting less sleep today, and why a growing number of them are falling short of sleep recommendations. This lack of sleep is the main cause of daytime sleepiness. Research consistently links daytime sleepiness to a range of negative effects, including worsened school grades, mental health struggles, and a lower quality of life. In our newly published study, we explored how bedtimes and daytime sleepiness are associated with the amount of time spent on screens during the day. We were also interested in whether avoiding screens for an hour before bed makes a difference. We found an association between screen time and sleep. However, the study provided no evidence that the popular sleep recommendation to avoid screens an hour before sleep is effective in the long term.
